Cinema: A Dirty Shame

Sunday June 27, 20:30

A return to form by the underground Schlockmeister John Waters in which his beloved Baltimore becomes the battleground of a suburban conflict between the sex-addicts and the prudes. When Sylvia Stickles (Tracey Ullman), a repressed housewife stuck in a rut is hit on the head, she turns into a nymphomaniac (a cunnilingus bottom, to be precise) and joins up with a group of sexual guerrillas which includes three Bears, an adult baby and a splosher (feel free to look that up) and is led by sexual messiah Ray Ray Perkins (Johnny Knoxville) who’s looking to invent a new sexual act, the biggest obstacle standing in their way is her prudish mother Big Ethel (Suzanne Sheperd) and her band of neuters. Besides the usual fantastic ensemble cast that frequents the films of John Waters (Mink Stole, Patricia Hearst and Alan J. Wendl, amongst others), A Dirty Shame stars Chris Isaak as Sylvia’s befuddled husband Vaughn and Selma Blair as her magnificently mammarian daughter Caprice, also known under her stage name as “Ursula Udders”. With the current anti-squatting bill in effect, mostly because of the moral crusaders of the Christian Democrats who have shown their true hypocritical faces through sexism and affairs lately, A Dirty Shame strikes a blow for tolerance and sexual freedom and against repression and conformity.
