After the Earthquake
Shock capitalism: stories, people and lies from Berlusconi’s Italy

On the 6th of April 2009 an earthquake devastated the city of L’Aquila, in central Italy, making more than 50,000 people homeless and setting the stage of the greatest housing speculations of all times.
And the earthquake might destroy buildings, but only man can kill a city.
And in this case the man is our dear prime minister Silbio Berlusconi, who has turned L’Aquila into a laboratory for shock capitalism, privatizing an entire city and changing the lives of its inhabitants for decades to come.
This is a story about homes, money and politics in a country where power is criminal and criminals are in power. It’s the story of what happen to people when they find themselves at the mercy of those who put profit above anything else.

Why do you link the Berlusconi case with L’Aquila heartquake? That was shocking but was not caused by him and it was better handled than other italian disasters. I am from L’Aquila and I lost my house and my village. This exposition doesn’t do any good to the people that are struggling, actually it raise a different question on a different matter and I do not understand the connection you made… what he said about “camping” was misunderstood by the foreign media. I am anti-Berlusca but this expo doesn’t do any good either against him either to help L’Aquila.

Bijzonder aangenaam verrast door de expo en niet minder door het feest dat er aan vast zat.
We hebben bij het weggaan buiten nog even staan kletsen over het (enigszins vergelijkbare) Maastrichtse initiatief, de URL heb ik ipv onze eigen website vermeld. Ik ga hen ook tippen over jullie bestaan uiteraard.
